Supporter’s Page

Thank you to all volunteers, donors and supporters who enable Clemson Community Care to continue to serve client needs, even in the midst of such a challenging economic environment. We are so fortunate to still have the resources to provide all of the services we offer, and we would not be in that position without your help.

School Success Workshop

The School Success Workshop was held on August 4 at Trinity Wesleyan Church. Personnel from the area schools provided information to parents. The workshop concluded with children activities and a hot dog supper. Bookbags were packed with supplies from the teacher’s lists for the families who attended from Clemson, Central, Pendleton.

Thanks to all who contributed school supples and helped with the packing and distribution of the book bags. Check out workshop photos below.

How do your donations help?

In 2013, because of generous donations from our community 11,910 pounds of holiday food was distributed (in November & December) to 391 families; and 26,883 pounds of food from the CCC pantry was distributed to 431 families providing food staples for 985 individuals.

Monetary donations in excess of $10,000 were used to purchase 375 Toys “R” Us gift certificates for children at last December’s Christmas party. In addition, donated toys were given to families with children who did not attend the party.

In 2013, CCC recorded 1,018 volunteer hours during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. We anticipate a busy season again this year and appreciate your donations of dollars and time that enable us to meet the needs of clients.

Congratulations and thanks to Claudia Harris who was honored as the CCC volunteer of the year at the recent Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Claudia has been a volunteer for CCC since it began in the basement of the old First Baptist Church. Partner Agency Highlight2014-09-24 11.12.19

ClemsonLIFE is a two year certification program offered to students with intellectual disabilities. ClemsonLIFE incorporates functional academics, independent living, employment, and social/leisure skills in a public university setting with the goal of producing self-sufficient young adults. Students gain employment experience through internships around campus and in the Clemson community, allowing the ClemsonLIFE students to further develop the jobs skills they can use for future employment.

This is CCC’s third year providing jobs for ClemsonLIFE students. The volunteer workers in the pantry loved working with our former students Clint and Shane. This year we are fortunate to have two students, Hope Banks and Jacob Starks (pictured above). Hope is from Mt. Pleasant and is working several days a week in the pantry. Jacob is always here to assist us in the pantry on Monday and Wednesday. He is from Atlanta.

Sarah Kathryn Sorrells, Employment Coordinator/Instructor for Clemson LIFE, says, “Clemson Community Care has been a wonderful partner in assisting our students learn necessary job skills.”

Special thanks to Carolina Real Estate!

CCC will be purchasing a much needed commercial freezer thanks to Carolina Real Estate who is letting CCC sell parking spaces for the November 29 football game between Clemson and USC. Thanks, Carolina Real Estate!

Clemson CROP Hunger Walk 2014CCCNL1114

Our 29th annual CROP Hunger Walk was held on Sunday, October 5 to raise funds to combat hunger locally and abroad. Several participants chose the one-mile walk through Abernathy Park, while others completed the 3.8 walk around the Clemson University campus. The Clemson University Air Force ROTC provided volunteers to staff water stations along the route. The walking routes began and ended at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, where registration was held and live music was provided by Stanton Adams and Maggie Heinz. Handmade items crafted in Haiti were for sale during registration, courtesy of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church’s Haiti Shop.

Toni King coordinated this year’s Crop Hunger Walk. We appreciate all the work she and her committee members did to organize this fundraiser for Clemson Community Care. The title corporate sponsor for this year was Edward Jones. Thanks also to the local churches and all those who walked in teams or as individuals, as well as the spirit walkers, who made a contribution to a team, an individual walker, or gave a general donation.

Last year’s Walk raised almost $13,000 to fight poverty and fund hunger-related projects through Church World Services with CCC receiving $3,244. This annual event is an opportunity for local residents and congregations to contribute to the community and fight poverty and hunger in other countries.
